I love crafting. I always have. When I was 20 I hurt my back pretty severally. I couldn't do anything but stand and lay down. I started making soaps and bath salts in my kitchen to stay busy. They weren't that great. My back got better and I went back to work. After I had kids I started scrap booking. I wasn't that good at it. Then I had an Idea that maybe candle making could be my new hobby. Turns out I was really good at it. I had some misses in the beginning, but improved quickly. I thought I could do this full time. So here I am.
About a year ago my oldest child started having allergy problems. His doctors suggestion was to have him live on medication. I didn't really like the idea of medicating a 3 year old so I started to do some research. I found out that the candles I used could be harming my family and that kids with allergies or asthma are especially affected by Paraffin candles.
That's when I discovered Soy. I was sold. The burn 50% longer then Paraffin. They produce about 90% less soot which means better air quality. Soy wax is a renewable resource, made from soy beans grown right here in the US. This means it supports our farmers and the economy, thus reducing Americas dependence on Foreign Oil.
I'm still a firm believer that every little bit counts. I changed out all my light bulbs to energy efficient ones. I drive less. I recycle more and I burn soy candles. I try and teach my boys how to save water, recycle, and conserve energy. I try and do a bit more every day to reduce our families impact.
